Youth and Community Center
The Youth and Community Center Committee is working on an exciting first project: the creation of a disc golf course for Frisbee golfers at Wilbur Young Park, 1200 SE Taylor Road in Blue Springs. The members are working with the Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department to plan the course and develop a budget for building and maintaining the course.
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a Frisbee. The sport was formalized in the 1970s, and shares with “ball golf” the object of completing each hole in the fewest number of strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, the fewest number of throws). A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target, which is the “hole.” The hole is one of a number of disc golf targets-typically an elevated metal basket. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it’s sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway.
